Sometimes there are no words for loss. Sometimes there’s nothing that anyone can say that can make it all ok. We live in a world where brokenness and hope are in a constant tussle, and often it feels like hope gets pinned down.
But though we may know sorrow now, we can cling on to hope. When we count on Jesus, what we yearn for now, we will fully know then. One day there will be no more pain, no more tears. I’m counting down the hours til that day.
I read the original poem to my Dad on his deathbed in 2013. I adapted this version Sept 22 as a tribute to Jake, for Ffion, and all those longing for a better ending. This little piece could be used for your Remembrance Sunday service, or as a reflection on the hope we have to look forward to, when we count on the one who doesn’t count our transgressions against us.
A poem by Dai Woolridge – 2010, adapted Sept 2022
