When we’re passionate about sharing Jesus and enthusiastic about our friends getting to know him, it’s easy to fall into the trap of sharing what we think or our own ideas and opinions, without first hearing our friends perspective and where they’re coming from. The Bible says in James 1:19, “Everyone should be quick to listen.” A great way to acknowledge what someone else has shared is called reflective listening. This is where we respond by reflecting back to our friend what we have heard. Take time this coming week to notice personal things that your friends are posting and practise acknowledging that you’ve heard what they have said, and take time to find out more about their situation or story.
